Valle Del Recunco

The story of David Arias begins with generations of family history in the rugged terrain of Bierzo. In 2016, David’s father made a pivotal decision: to preserve their ancestral vineyards—vines planted between 1890 and 1930. Because of the steep, abrupt landscape, these vines have always been worked entirely by hand. This was the birth of their mission: to honor the authenticity of the land and protect a living legacy.

Today, David crafts his wines using estate-grown grapes and fruit from leased vineyards, primarily located on the hills south of the Sil River, between the villages of Villalibre, Rimor, and Toral de Merayo. His winemaking philosophy focuses on balance, longevity, and a profound respect for the unique character of every vintage and parcel.

The Stars Align!

I first met David back in 2019. At the time, he was just starting out and his production was so small that exporting was impossible. Now, nearly six years later, he has reached a point where he can finally send a small portion of his work to New York. The wait has been rewarding; as these ancient vines continue to age, they yield less fruit but produce wines of immense complexity. Beyond the bottle, David remains committed to the future of the region by recovering abandoned old vineyards near his estate.
