DAGAZ
We were immediately drawn to DAGAZ wines from learning that the rune Dagaz is an ancient Celtic rune that literally means day, but it is a symbol that symbolizes change or new beginnings. We immediately felt identified with the name and from the label we could tell that there was a lot of attention to detail that seemed to go into this wines. The tasting of the two wines we tried did not disappoint and then we learned the story of Marco Puyo who is the brain behind these extraordinary concoctions that we hope you will love as much as we do.
While Dagaz represents change and new beginnings, Marco has a long track record in the wine production industry. With over 26 years of wine making under his belt and experience with important producers in Chile such as Los Vascos, as well as international experience in Burgudy, Bordeaux, Champagne, Napa Valley, and Argentina, Marco finally made the jump as an independent producer. The new venture of Marco has been in the making for a long time. Marco describes himself as a dreamer and since 2005 when he acquired a piece of land in Pumanque (inside Colchagua) and started planting vines. Marco produced wines since mostly for friends and family and finally in 2019 Vina Dagaz saw the light to the general public.
From his vast experience Marco understands very well the importance of “terroir” and that is the reason he anchored his project in Pumanque. A land that benefits from wide variations of weather throughout the day and rich soil that allows the varietals that Marco chose to grow and transmit freshness and minerality to the wines. Marco also understands the importance of focus and the reason he started with only 2 red wines, which is what he knows best.
